Hotel Chopin

We only stayed because EasyJet booked it for us after our flight was cancelled. The room had such a strong mold and stale smell that we had to leave the windows open just to breathe, despite the cold outside. The very old, poorly maintained air-conditioning unit was unbearably loud and smelled even worse when switched on, so we slept without it. The bed was much too small for anyone over 1.85 m and very uncomfortable. A terrible experience, and unacceptable overall. Avoid it.

I couldn’t sleep because of the unbearable musty smell. I coughed all night and couldn’t breathe properly. There was hair on the bathroom floor too. I ended up at this creepy, haunted-looking hotel only because I missed my flight and every other airport hotel was full.

The staff were very gracious and tried to help, which is why I gave service four stars. The rooms were poorly prepared: just a small bar of soap, one thin roll of toilet paper, no other amenities, and not even drinking water. There was no hot water for a late-night shower or wash either. The hotel is also extremely inconveniently located, near nothing. I appreciated the staff’s effort to make the stay less painful.

The rooms were clean enough, but noisy: thin walls meant I could hear the neighboring rooms and hallway, and a loud vibration from some air or machinery system kept interrupting my sleep all night. Some rooms also require a three-minute walk outside in cold or rain. The beds have cheap springs and bounce when you move, which is bad for two people and unpleasant even alone. The staff were alright, but the food wasn’t good. It’s near the airport, though a taxi costs 30 EUR and the shuttles don’t run very often. I’m surprised it has such a high rating.
