Villa Rosita

We needed somewhere to sleep before an early flight from FCO, and this worked out really well. Check-in was seamless, and Federico arranged a 0445 airport shuttle for the next morning. Luigi, the driver, was great too. Federico and his family were wonderful hosts. The location is lovely and suits couples or families. We'll definitely stay here next time we're in Rome.

It's a budget B&B, not really a hotel, run by a couple who look after travelers wanting an inexpensive night near the airport. You get fair value, a clean room, friendly service, WiFi, heating and AC, and a full bathroom. The airport shuttle is convenient and cheaper than a taxi, though it costs extra. Local tax is also extra, $5 per person. The beds and mattresses are firm, and the tile floors are cold, so bring socks. Breakfast is included only if you book through their website. That's understandable, since third-party booking sites charge the owners a fee. I'd recommend it for a no-frills night with the option of a shuttle. It's a better value than most nearby airport hotels.

The veranda was such a nice spot to relax and listen to the evening sounds. The grounds and rooms were immaculate, and the host was wonderful. It made for a lovely, peaceful last night in Italy. Five stars don't feel like enough!

Federico was kind and easy to reach. He said to message him on WhatsApp if I needed anything while he was away from the property, and he replied almost right away each time. He also gave us a printed map with some major local attractions highlighted, and let us leave our bags for a few hours after checkout because our flight was later. On our last day, he even put our bags in the car for the €15 shuttle. A kind gesture, and very much appreciated. Villa Rosita is a small, cozy, affordable place, with lovely scenery at both the front and back. It's less than a 10-minute drive from FCO. The shuttle to or from the airport costs €15 per trip, not per person. We took public transit to save money, but found it very confusing, so I'd use the shuttle and save yourself the headache. Our room had a shower, bed, AC unit, desk, chair, armchair, refrigerator, and wooden closet. The style is a little dated, but it was comfortable and everything worked. The fridge got very cold when we changed the setting, and the host provided several free bottles of water, which I really appreciated. The shower had good pressure, the temperature was as expected, the hot water was actually hot, and it drained without trouble. I've had bad shower drainage at other European hotels, where water comes back up around your feet, which is pretty disgusting and seems common to me. The AC kept the room very cool even though the unit was small. There was a TV, but you can't connect a Fire Stick to watch your own shows or subscriptions. Free tea and coffee were available in the lobby all day. Breakfast costs extra, and we didn't get it. There's a grocery store within walking distance, a nice restaurant around the corner, and several cafés about 10 to 15 minutes away on foot. Smaller places like this can be more hospitable than the big competitors. I definitely recommend giving Villa Rosita a try.
