Ai Quattro Venti Guest House

I came here hoping to rest, but drilling and other renovations started at 8 a.m. They could at least have waited until 10. I understand that work needs doing, but in a guesthouse during summer, people want to relax, not take part in the work. I paid a lot and couldn't even sleep. Communication was difficult, too: they contacted me only in Italian, even when I sent a message in English. For a place like this, I expected them to speak at least some English. That isn't an unreasonable wish. In short, terrible.

I was nervous after reading the reviews, but after a long flight I stayed one night and found it quite pleasant. The room was clean, and the AC worked fine. Just downstairs there's a nice breakfast spot and cocktail bar overlooking the canal, and the cappuccino and cornetto were very good. I wouldn't choose it for a long stay, but it's a good option for a short one. I messaged the host beforehand to arrange the password since we were arriving at 5 a.m.

Our flight arrived late, and without telling us, the hotel canceled our reservation even though we'd booked ahead and prepaid everything. They advertise a 24-hour front desk. When we called, they ignored us at first, then answered rudely in Italian, saying the hotel was closed and they weren't interested in our situation, or in the fact that we'd been left homeless for the night. Absolutely the worst experience.
