Boutique Hotel Hugo

Hotel Boutique Hugo made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived, and the staff were warm, kind, and ready to help. The room was spotless and comfortable, with a style that suited the romantic feel of Firenze. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, with charming details throughout that make it feel both elegant and cozy. I’ll stay here again when I come back to Florence. The location is great, about a 10 minute walk to the Santa Maria Cathedral, and the rooms and bathroom were clean and well kept. The staff were really friendly, and breakfast was decent, which earns the place an extra star. Still, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially with family. We booked through Orbitz and were reassured by all the great reviews, but didn’t realize it was a one star place. That was our mistake, though we were surprised by the hotel itself. You have to carry luggage up three flights of stairs to the entrance, with no elevator, and the stairwell is dark even at night, dingy, and musty smelling. It might be fine for a solo traveler, but it wasn’t what we expected with our family.

We only stayed one night. The room was okay and the bed very comfortable, while breakfast was fine and served by a very nice woman. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The small hotel is on the third floor, with no lift, so lots of luggage could be a problem. The center is about a 10 minute walk away. There was no one at reception on Sunday morning, but we called the number posted there and got the taxi we needed. All in all, it was an okay stay.

Breakfast was a highlight: excellent cappuccino, fruit, yogurt, sandwiches, and pastries, though there was quite a bit of carbs. The room was quiet, with no street noise on an already peaceful street. The hotel and bathroom were very clean, housekeeping was excellent, and the shower had plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable, too. The front desk staff were lovely and helpful. There’s not much shelf space in the bathroom, and we would have appreciated an iron and ironing board. Keep in mind the hotel is five flights up and there’s no elevator.
