The reception team were genuinely friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect. The room was cleaned well, but it felt damp, the towels smelled of vinegar, and the walls were chipped and overdue for repairs. Compared with the five other hotels we stayed at in popular Italian cities, this was the one we liked least. In my view, the price was three times too high, which made the experience even more disappointing. Breakfast was another letdown. The lift took five minutes to travel between floors, stopping at each one, so I arrived four minutes after breakfast had ended. The restaurant staff angrily told me I was late. I stayed, saying I’d have a coffee in ten minutes and then leave, but the whole exchange was unpleasant. It would be good if management addressed how restaurant guests are treated. One night was very noisy outside, and even the good double-glazed windows didn’t block it. That’s just an observation, not a complaint against the hotel. I’m sorry to give it a low rating, but owners and management should pay attention to the things guests pay for. We still had a wonderful time in Florence.

The concierge made a real difference, with helpful local advice on restaurants and getting around. Their nearby steakhouse suggestion for a birthday dinner became one of our trip highlights. The hotel is right in the historic center, a few steps from San Lorenzo Church and about a one-minute walk from the Duomo, so exploring on foot was easy. Our room was spacious by European standards, with a large bed, and the preserved old building gave it plenty of character. The bathroom was roomier than we expected, and having a refrigerator in the room was handy. Housekeeping kept everything in excellent shape each day. Breakfast was a lovely Italian spread to start sightseeing. Hotel Palazzo Benci made a comfortable and atmospheric base in Florence.

A new hotel in a good part of Florence, and a nice place to stay. The AC wasn’t working while I was there, though, which made things a bit uncomfortable.

Breakfast was lovely, with plenty to choose from, served 7:30-10:00. The staff were polite and very nice, and the cleaning lady always smiled and said hello when we passed her. We had a pleasant stay. We picked the hotel for its modern look, reasonable price and location near the train station. The street outside is busy, but our courtyard-facing room was peaceful. There are lots of restaurants and corner shops close by, and the Uffizi Gallery and other sights are easy to reach. You can borrow a steamer from reception. I did miss having a kettle in the room or water on arrival. Coffee costs 3€ and tea are available downstairs in the lounge.

Traveling alone, I found the single room clean, comfortable, and sensibly laid out, overlooking the inner courtyard. The location is fantastic, just minutes from the main station and with an easy tram connection to the airport. Breakfast was a good continental spread, and everyone on staff was super friendly.
