Hotel Palazzo Guadagni

Staff had excellent recommendations, and the neighborhood was great, close to everything. We stayed about five nights and had a great time. Only thing to know, if you’re in room 12? there can be some bar noise at night. It’s noticeable, but not overwhelming.

Breakfast out on the terrace is great, though it’s open to the public and can get very busy. The location is convenient for walking into the city center, but the immediate area doesn’t feel too crowded. The classic, old-school rooms have a homey feel.

The hotel is beautiful, but it needs a lot of updating. The beds and pillows were so firm that our backs and necks hurt, and the bathtubs are very high to climb into. Our room was up two more flights of stairs from reception, with no elevator because of the building’s structure. The hotel is on the third floor and only has a small elevator, so it wasn’t accommodating for disabled guests. I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known. Breakfast was very mediocre, and I don’t think the stay is worth the cost.

The patio restaurant had a great atmosphere, with sounds from the piazza below. I’d read that food choices were limited, and found that out firsthand when I ordered a shared plate of pancetta and buffalo mozzarella for lunch and ended up with it all to myself. A warning from the server would’ve helped. I’d also hoped for more of a city view, but the outlook was north rather than over downtown. It was a bit of a walk to get there, though not too far. The narrow elevator was fun to ride, and the stairs work fine too. I enjoyed the place, but if I came again I might try loggia Michelangelo.
