Hotel St. James

The price I paid made me extremely happy. The staff were very kind, and the rooms cozy. The city centre is about a 10-minute walk away, so it's a great choice for a 2-3 day stay in Florence.

The room was clean when we arrived, and the location was good. Those are the reasons for the two stars. The hotel and room felt as old as Florence. There were only three hangers in the wardrobe, with no drawers or cabinets. Soap was barely replenished, and we even had to ask for toilet paper. One front desk staff member was decent, another was laconic at best, and one was rude. When I asked about parking, he questioned why I needed a car, as though it were any of his business. The shower was another problem: the bathtub's glass panel didn't keep water in, so it splashed everywhere and we had to spend half an hour drying the floor. I'd avoid staying here. There are plenty of other options nearby, including the sister hotel five minutes away, where I eventually parked for 30 Euro per night.

The room was very clean, and so were the bed and towels. The shower was a bit dodgy and seemed to have a mind of its own. The place itself is old and a bit tired, but the location is perfect for the main attractions, just a four-minute walk to the Duomo and museums. Lots of bars and restaurants are nearby, so there's plenty to choose from.

It was a comfortable stay, and we'd definitely stay there again. We had a double room with a private bathroom, cleaned daily, with clean towels and sheets. The building felt safe, the staff were kind and helpful, and both the air conditioning and radiator worked well. It's close to the train station and easy to walk to the tourist sights. They don't offer breakfast.
