LHP Hotel River & SPA

There’s no rooftop bar, despite what Google says, though they do have a little garden bar. The room was roomy and nicely furnished, but I heard more street noise than I expected. Breakfast was very good, and the service was exceptionally gracious.

The room had no A/C, and you have to pay extra for water. The Wifi was awful, and the soundproofing was so poor that we could hear the neighbors’ noise and footsteps clearly. This felt like a complete joke, more like a 2-star hotel at best. Come here if you want a miserable stay.

We left right away because we didn’t feel safe after finding our room open to the terrace, with no maintenance worker around. Before that, we’d smelled smoke in the room, although Costanza said all the rooms were non-smoking. We’d put a “do not disturb” sign on the door, but Costanza still told maintenance to enter. When I took pictures, she objected on privacy grounds. She said it shouldn’t matter because hotel staff are allowed in rooms, but what about the privacy she’d violated? We packed up and left immediately. Capitol One Card filed a formal complaint, but we still haven’t received a response or credit for the two nights. Jessica, the manager, hasn’t responded either. At Hotel Brunelleschi, we checked in, put a do not disturb sign up, left our luggage, then went out. When we came back hours later, there was a note saying the chambermaid couldn’t make up the room because of the sign. That’s the right way to run a hotel.

After we found the room open with all our valuables exposed to the public bar and restaurant area, we checked out two days early. We got no refund, only disrespect and dishonesty. It took nearly 20 minutes for anyone to show up, and the staff member said Costanza had told him to come in and change the air filter coil because the room smelled of smoke. She hadn’t notified us or got our consent, and had denied the smell when we first complained. There was no apology, just the defiant claim that staff could enter whenever they wanted. We’d booked three nights. At check-in, Costanza was unhelpful and disputed that the room reeked of cigarettes, saying it was a non-smoking hotel and there were no other rooms. The next morning we put a “Do not disturb” hanger on the door and went into Florence. About an hour later, we realized my wife had left her wallet behind. When we returned, the room door was open, a staff card was in the electrical slot, there was a ladder beside the bed, and the back doors stood wide open. No staff were there. Those doors open onto a bar and restaurant sitting area used by the whole hotel.
