Strozzi Palace Hotel

On April 2, 2026, we checked into room 33 at Strozzi Palace Hotel and were met with a strong sewage odor and what smelled like fresh paint. I politely asked reception for another room, but the hotel was full. They promised one for 2 p.m. the next day. Less than an hour later, water started flooding the bathroom floor while I was showering. I told the desk again. Cecilia came up, saw the flooding, and verbally acknowledged the sewage smell with a visibly disgusted expression. She replaced the towels we'd used to contain the water and said a plumber would come the next day. We got a different room at 2 p.m. on April 3, but it looked like it hadn't been wiped down, with dust on every surface. I asked for a refund for the first night because we couldn't sleep in the first room and the sewer gas left us feeling sick. This was highly unsanitary and not what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. Cecilia denied the odor later, though she did admit there had been flooding that kept us from showering. They said they found no problem the next morning, despite her seeing it the night before. The hotel also fell short on the amenities expected at this level. A Google search turned up multiple complaints about sewer gas in the hotel. The service felt like a roadside motel. I saw two employees step over a wet towel near the breakfast room on the first floor. I'll file an official complaint and ask for a refund. Update: the elevator shaft has started smelling of sewer gas too. I told staff as we came out and got an eye roll. Before checkout, hotel staff opened our door and walked in without knocking or announcing themselves. The service is incredibly poor and the hospitality is nearly nonexistent. Our travel companions' room was picked up, but wet towels were folded and hung instead of replaced. When they asked for fresh ones, staff brought one bath towel and then argued that they'd brought two.
