Ausonia

This poor rating comes from an incident at Hotel Ausonia on the morning of September 29, 2021. More than once, I saw an elderly staff member, “the operator,” who wasn't kitchen staff, handle our food with bare hands. I told him I'd seen him pick up food that had fallen on the counter and put it back on our plate. He said “italian law” allowed him to do that without gloves or tongs. When I called it unsanitary and against health regulations, he rubbed his bare hands on our plates and swore at us in Italian. I've never been treated so badly at a hotel in all my travels. The young man at the front desk apologized, but “the operator” never apologized for his outburst. It was completely unacceptable and wiped out anything positive I could have said about the hotel. Regardless of covid, no one should handle a customer's food with bare hands. I hope management takes proper steps so it doesn't happen again, but I highly doubt it.

A cosy hotel in a great spot right across from the beach, with very friendly staff. Breakfast is continental, with no hot food. There's no parking at the property. Street parking is free if you can find a space.

The private beach is amazing, while the rooms are functional and okay. Staff seemed a little frosty at times. Parking is tricky, since you have to find a space somewhere on the streets, sometimes several streets away.

The location worked well, and the service was good. A lovely hotel.
