Locanda de Banchieri

I drove four hours from Alba, checked in, showered, and still made my reservation. OMG, it was worth it! The chef’s tasting menu really opened my eyes. I loved how fresh everything was and the fun way the courses were paired. It’s nothing like fancy dining, but what he made really got my senses going. If you love food and all this place has to offer, it’s a must for a Tuscany experience.

Locanda de Banchieri feels like a discovery you never expected to make in this part of Italy, even if you’ve lived here your whole life. People say the area is neither Tuscany nor Liguria, but some kind of blend of the two, and there are plenty of local stories about it. I’ve stayed in more luxurious hotels and eaten at more celebrated restaurants, yet few places have affected me like this one. What stays with me is the authenticity: the warmth of the people and how sincerely they try to make you feel at home, along with all the thoughtful details. The food combines Michelin-star sophistication with humble, honest simplicity. Nature’s scent hangs around the old, quietly imperfect villa. Part of me wants to keep it a secret, but others will find it too, and they should.

It was a wonderful experience. We tried both menus with the wines they selected to go with them. The person who served us showed great knowledge of the ingredients and how the dishes were put together. One of their staff members also gave our two dogs a lot of attention, which really made the experience even better. If you have dogs, you can bring them along, and they’ll be treated with real care too.

We stayed two nights at Locanda de Banchieri, and the first began with a fantastic dinner, so remember to book a table. Special thanks to the chef and owner, Giacomo Devoto, for the food and for shaping a concept that feels modern while staying rustic and local. The staff are clearly well trained and work hard to meet four- and five-star hotel standards. They’re always smiling and ready to answer questions. That care is part of what makes this place stand out. Our room was cozy and spotless, with a great mattress and pillows that let me sleep well, plus a lovely sea view. Parking is right in front of reception. It had everything we might need, including tea, biscuits, a shower cap, shampoo, and a hairdryer. I liked their breakfast system: you choose what you want the night before on a paper form and leave it at reception. It helps avoid food waste and keeps things economical. There’s a long enough list for everyone to find a favorite. We’ll be back 😎
