Dimora del Leone

This is an unmanned hotel and it was a bit hard to find since it isn’t on a street. You have to climb a flight of stairs to reach it. Check-in required us to enter personal details through an app we didn’t know. When a staff member eventually arrived, he didn’t seem very happy to see us, like we were an inconvenience. The room was 28.6°C, and although it had air conditioning and a control, we couldn’t get it to work. To leave, I had to reach through the gate and feel around for the keypad on the other side, then enter the code without being able to see it. There isn’t much to see in this area. I’d suggest booking a hotel along the beach instead, where you can get more amenities and have a person check you in.

Everything else was perfect, but the Wi-Fi was slow and kept dropping.

We were in Gaeta in early August for eight nights, staying in the Ducal Room at Dimora del Leone. The room had a balcony, a bathroom window, and a walk-in closet, though there was no direct sea or castle view. Housekeeping and service were very good the whole time. Breakfast was served at a nearby bar, and the equipped beach service was included in the price. It was excellent, though we chose to use it only a few times. The main drawbacks were the limited number of reserved parking spaces and all the steps to the room and parking lot. We also had the option of free parking throughout the restricted traffic zone during our stay. Since Gaeta and nearby towns are medieval, these are the kinds of situations you often run into. The staff member who first spoke with us by phone helped with the booking, welcomed us to the property and village, and took care of some of our requests. She was always kind and helpful. I recommend this B&B for its comfort and convenient location. Gaeta was an unexpected surprise.

Dimora del Leone is right in the medieval historic center, beneath the Angevin castle, and it’s a great base for exploring the busy evening streets and finding somewhere to eat. We stayed five nights in a room with a kitchen and rooftop terrace. The view from up there is breathtaking. There are a lot of steps to reach the room, and there’s no elevator. With this being a beautifully renovated historic building, it isn’t a good fit for anyone with mobility issues.
