The owners were very kind and did offer us a different room, which turned out to be a good solution. Still, I don’t think we’ll come back. We’d been put in a street-facing room on the first floor, where traffic and the piano bars in the center kept us awake. The pillows were so uncomfortable that I had a headache all night, and the indoor air-conditioning unit was noisy because it didn’t vent outside. When we decided to leave and asked for a refund for the remaining nights, they offered us the room change. Breakfast was at a nearby bar under an agreement with the hotel, not at the property. My brother-in-law ordered fruit juice with his croissant instead of coffee or cappuccino and was told he’d have to pay the difference, which he did. We were paying about €180 a night. For comparison, a few years ago in September we stayed at the luxury resort Bucuti and Tara in Aruba for about €160 a night, with breakfast and dinner included. I’ve left the details so anyone can check whether this is accurate. It all leaves me thinking that tourism in Italy still has a long way to go.
