We rate the bar as excellent. It's our usual place for a nightcap.

The rooms eventually warmed up late in the evening, but their walls were cold, and the lobby was chilly too. We were there on New Year's Eve. Even this valley, once home to proud people, now feels caught up in the same impersonal trend as the rest of Italy, with people selling off their old age alongside their cute little dogs.

At 2:45 a.m. we're still awake, kept up by the annoying noises. The hotel creaks whenever anyone walks, and there may be a water pipe leaking in the bathroom. Looks like we'll be up all night.
