Villa Vagabondo

We stayed in summer 2024. The “hotel” is a small, charming building with good air-conditioned rooms, a nice pool that’s perfectly adequate, and a superb location. The approach through the olive grove has a special, exclusive feel. It was quiet, breakfast on the hotel veranda was excellent, and the hosts, who live in the same building, were friendly and very helpful. Still, the house rules made the stay feel more like being a private guest than staying at a hotel. In the evening we couldn’t use the pool because the pump was already off. We also couldn’t have wine and bread with olive oil on the small veranda because food in the room might attract ants. If that’s the sort of stay you want, a holiday apartment would suit better. Breakfast options were limited too: we asked for a five-minute egg and were offered only soft, medium, or hard-boiled. Those little frustrations spoiled things for us. It’s a shame, because Villa Vagabondo has much more potential.

The rooms are lovingly kept and have real Italian charm, and the garden is wonderful. It has a pool, though we didn’t try it in winter. Villa Vagabondo is tucked away among olive trees in complete quiet, yet it’s less than a 10-minute walk to the marina and some amazing terraces and restaurants. We spent four wonderful days here with the nicest hosts, a Dutch couple. A real insider tip, and we’ll definitely come back. Highly recommend this place!

We stayed two nights in a double room at the beginning of May, and came away with mixed impressions. The rooms were clean, spacious, and tidy, the price was attractive, and the olive groves above Garda made for a wonderfully quiet setting. Garda is about a 10-minute walk away, though the path is steep. The hospitality and food didn’t meet our expectations. Service felt distant and rather impersonal. On both mornings the butter tasted rancid to us and was soft. We mentioned it on the first day and got a replacement, but that also seemed spoiled. The tea and especially the coffee weren’t to our taste, and breakfast included assorted packaged sweets. The coffee in particular wasn’t as good as we’d hoped. We noticed a few ants in the bathroom on the first evening, which we understand can happen in nature. By the second evening there were many more, with visible trails from the bedroom into the bathroom. The guesthouse also told us the tap water wasn’t potable during our stay because of problems. At checkout, we hadn’t decided to leave a tip and didn’t have the exact amount. When staff returned the change, they said it was “good for the toilet on the way home.” That remark made us uncomfortable.

We spent four days here during our Lake Garda holiday and were very pleased with the stay. The owners, Marco and Pascal, were incredibly friendly and ready to help whenever we needed anything. They offered tips for restaurants and activities nearby, and even arranged a scooter for us to use for a while. The room, breakfast, pool, and owners were all fantastic. I’d highly recommend this place and give it a solid five stars!
