Hotel Meandro - Lake View

We stayed for two nights in early August, and I regretted booking almost from the start. Four days before our original four-night reservation, a difficult personal situation arose because of the ongoing crisis in our country. We asked to cancel, as we weren't comfortable traveling, but the manager refused and insisted on a penalty for the full stay. Nearly $700 is a lot for us, so we went ahead with two nights, mainly because he wouldn't offer any flexibility or consideration. The staff were unprofessional, the receptionist was rude, and the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. The entrance looked dated, and the hotel was much older than the photos suggested. The hallway carpets had a strong, unpleasant old smell. Our room had no window and was designed for people with disabilities. The shower flooded constantly and was full of insects. It was disgusting, and we just wanted to leave. When we asked the receptionist about changing rooms, or at least getting one with a window, she called the owner and acted as if she were discussing it with him. I understand some Italian, and it seemed clear she wasn't being truthful. She tried to charge us an extra €100 per night for a room with a window. At checkout, we found they'd charged our credit card two days before we arrived without telling us. That was completely unexpected and, frankly, illegal. The reservation said the card was for security only, not payment. The owner never made himself available to discuss it, and the staff didn't seem to care. They refused to return the extra charges, and the receptionist stayed rude and dismissive throughout. When I asked about the room, she suddenly claimed to "only speak German" to avoid my questions, then switched to fluent English when another tourist came to the desk. I wouldn't recommend the hotel based on what happened. I plan to file a formal complaint with my embassy, and sincerely hope nobody else has to go through this.

We had a wonderfully restful stay, and the hotel was very accommodating. Our balcony looked over the lake, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great. Breakfast was free and amazing, and the dinner we had there once was delicious. The indoor pool and sauna were a great bonus. Everything was walkable, including Gargnano's many lakeside dinner options in its quaint, quiet setting. The lake and beach are five minutes from the hotel, with a beautiful park where you can rent a lounger for the grounds or beach. Limone is a short drive away along scenic, breathtaking roads. We look forward to coming back.

Sonia at the front desk was especially helpful with what we needed. The rooms were comfortable, service was amazing, and the views were incredible. Breakfast was plentiful, with Lake Garda in view, a great start to the day.

The room and restaurant views are gorgeous, the indoor pool is very nice, and the staff are lovely. There are some real drawbacks, though. You can hear people talking on neighboring balconies and their TV because the rooms are poorly soundproofed. The mezzanine rooms aren't suitable for small children, since the ladder is wobbly and dangerous. Parking is expensive and very cramped, making it hard to maneuver.
