NH Genova Centro

The rooms were immaculate and the staff paid close attention to guests. Breakfast was delightful, and there's convenient parking just 50 meters from the hotel. It was a superior stay.

The staff are VERY helpful, and the hotel looks nice, but the materials feel cheap everywhere, from the door and bathroom hardware to the lounge furniture. My main issue is the mattress. This was my second stay, and I've been disappointed both times. Apparently the mattresses are new, so whoever chose them made a poor call or got cheated. At this price, a four-star hotel should have a good mattress. I expect poor ones in two-star places, but here it's unacceptable, and that alone should lower its star rating. Probably my last stay at NH.

The value for money is what bothers me most. I paid €568 for three nights in April, or €190 a night as a solo traveller, and it was the worst value I've experienced. At €50 I might have thought it was fine, but not at four times that price. The room was unbelievably dated, the sink was stained, the bath was what I had for a shower, and there was no view at all. The fridge noise woke me every 25 minutes through the night. Breakfast was poor, with awful coffee. It's supposed to be a four-star hotel. The location is good, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the bed is okay. That's all I can say in its favor. I wanted to give it 1.5 stars because one seemed too low and two too high. If you have money to burn and don't care about accommodation quality, stay here.

We arrived in Genova exhausted after a bus ride from Venice where we hadn't slept, and needed to board our cruise at the port later that day. We managed to get two last-minute rooms for our family, who badly needed a nap. The rooms were clean, and we could sleep for a while and shower before setting off on our seven-day adventure.
