The sea is still lovely for swimming well into October, with temperatures around 26°C. There’s also a great range of fruit in season then, which makes the off-season a wonderful time to come. This beautifully furnished, luxurious B&B fills up only in peak season, so it feels like a hidden gem the rest of the year.

We found real peace and quiet at this B&B in the town center, despite staying in an 18th-century building. Maurizio and Stefania were genuinely lovely and welcoming, very much like true Calabrian people. We’d booked a standard room, but because it was available, Maurizio moved us to a beautiful one with a panoramic view and a frescoed ceiling.

Once inside, the building is quite nice, and the upper floors have been renovated, though the exterior doesn’t make the best impression. The rooms are spacious and airy, with lots of windows, and there’s plenty of parking. Breakfast was generous and good. It was very, very good overall, especially with the pretty village only a two-minute walk away. The one drawback is that they could use a little more staff.
