Terra di Gradara

We had a confirmed, non-refundable booking at a good rate, made almost three months ahead. A week before the trip, the hotel unexpectedly offered us “free cancellation.” A few days later, Google Maps showed much higher prices for our dates. Then on the morning we were due to travel, Booking.com emailed to say the hotel had canceled. Terra di Gradara never contacted us directly, despite our messages about lunch and dinner reservations in the days before. When I called, the explanations were hard to believe. Finding somewhere reasonable that same night in high season was painful, especially with my pregnant partner. The cancellation itself was a huge letdown, and the way it was handled made it worse. Be warned: even with confirmations and conversations, a cheap rate might leave you without a room. It seemed clear to us that the room had been resold at a much higher price.
