Hotel Lion Noir

My kids thought the hotel was okay apart from the food. Dinner is a real gamble. After a week, only a fraction of the guests were still eating at the table. The food was cooked to an unacceptable level, and even the extra effort for children came out incredibly bland, just pasta with tinned chopped tomatoes. The hotel is very much three stars, with the expected hard bed and trickle of warm water in the shower. Room service did a great job cleaning, and even folded my and the kids’ clothes, which was a highlight. They also helped us get to the hotel when I couldn’t drive up with our bags. The playroom and lounge are nice, though they feel very 90s and old in a non-retro way. Ski storage is basically a garage, and the boot storage is poor. It’s next to a swimming pool, so the air is warm and humid, perfect for making sweaty boots smell fresh and moist by morning.

We came as a family of five and found it just right. It’s old style and basic, but very clean, with good facilities and a great location. The staff were polite and very obliging. The buffet breakfast had a great choice, and dinner was lovely.

A very good choice for a ski holiday. I found the pool hours a bit limited, and the water could be a couple of degrees warmer to make it more enjoyable.

Dinner became a highlight of every day. We met the chefs, Lucca and Alberto, and congratulated them on the delicious menu and variety. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to Jade, Raphaela, Cassia and Rachele. My Portuguese and Italian spelling isn’t great! The six of us had a wonderfully comfortable stay at the Lion Noir. The location is perfect, with skiing right from the door, bars nearby and the gondola down to Aosta (8€). When we had an early problem with one room, it was sorted immediately. We didn’t use the pool because we were too busy in the hotel bar après ski, though other guests said it was great.
