Janice is wonderful to talk with, and such a talented cook. The food was great. This vegan B&B sits on 25 acres of woods and fields in the Umbrian countryside, with an old Roman road and its original stones running through the grounds. You can wander there or relax on the covered terrace and enjoy the views. The building has quite a history: it began as an 11th-century monastery, became a Counts’ hunting lodge, then a farmhouse, and now the B&B. It’s around 30 minutes from historic Gubbio and 30-40 from Perugia. There’s also a lake forming in the valley behind the property, so it may soon be right by the water. A lovely place!

The tomato soup was the best I’ve ever had, and the food in general is amazing after a day exploring Umbria. This beautiful old monastery is on the Assisi trail, between Assisi and Gubio. I loved staying here and will make a point of coming back whenever I’m in Italy.
