Bungalowtent Camping Rio Vantone

We’re a family of five from the UK, camping in a tent, and spent a week here. The setting was lovely, relaxed and quiet in the mornings and evenings, when the steep slopes leave the campsite in shade. Some trees drop fruit that can stain, so bring something to protect your tent. The pitches are close together, but everyone was so laid-back that it wasn’t a problem. We could easily have stayed two weeks and will be back, which I rarely say. There’s great access to the water for wind-based sports. A breeze usually comes up around noon, good for windsurfing, wing foiling and sailing. You can hire equipment, though there isn’t much foiling gear, so bring your own. If foiling with a kite, bring a 7 m one, as 5 m wasn’t enough. The sailing boat is old but works perfectly, and the people handling water sports rentals were lovely. There’s a via ferrata nearby, and you can bring a harness or hire one at reception. My kids thought the pool would be great if it were heated, though in the end they didn’t need it. The new restaurant is good, and the small shop is sensibly stocked, if a bit pricey. We cycled and kayaked into the nearby village for more supplies. Both the new and old toilet blocks are great; the washing-up area is old but perfectly fine.

We stayed three nights in mid-May, when the campsite was quiet with only a handful of other campers around. The lakeside pitches cost quite a lot, but the view is amazing. The bathrooms and other facilities were clean and nice, and the staff were friendly. I imagine the pitches might feel cramped for privacy when the place is full, though that’s true of most Italian campsites.

The staff were helpful all the way from the owner to the maintenance crew, and the camp has everything you need for a nice holiday. There’s a cosy little pool for children, good food and a small but decent shop. It’s right by the lake, and much calmer and less crowded than Garda while still offering plenty of water activities, including paddleboarding, windsurfing, swimming and sailing small boats. We’ll definitely come back.

The location and facilities are superb. The lake is lovely, there’s plenty for kids, and the restaurant and shop are good, though pricey. I’d come back, but I’d be careful about which pitch to choose. There are only two washing machines for the whole site, and a camping representative seems to monopolise one of them most of the time. Some of the snack bar staff also seem like they’d rather be doing something else. The bigger problem was the group area along the road side of the camp. They didn’t seem to respect quiet hours from 11 pm to 7 am, and my kids were woken several times in the early hours.
