Hermitage & Park Terme Ischia

The breakfast was amazing, and the spa was good. The rest of the experience could have been better. The family room didn’t match what I expected, with a sofa bed instead of two queen beds. The rooms were clean but dated, and the facilities were average. The internet was terrible and unavailable about 90% of the time, except at reception. There was no kettle or tea in the room, and the air conditioning barely worked in July. It felt very expensive for what we got.

We wouldn’t recommend this place, especially for the price. The hotel advertised itself as pet-friendly, but our dog wasn’t allowed anywhere apart from being shut in the room. Before booking, we called to ask whether the dog could be near the pool, and they kindly said yes. That turned out to be completely misleading. Using the pool also meant paying €3 per day for a towel and another €3 per day for a pool cap. Check-in was a mess. We arrived around 12:30 and had to wait outside in the heat with our luggage because the room wasn’t ready. Reception staff were cold and unhelpful, as though basic questions were a bother.

The dinner was more like something from a fine restaurant than a hotel, and breakfast had lots of variety. I had a wonderful eight-day stay at the Hermitage in Ischia. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and both the rooms and pools were spotless. The spa treatments were top quality, and the beach shuttle made things even easier. I’ll definitely recommend it to my family and closest friends.

The extra charges added up to €131.50, even though we expected around €30-50 for drinks and towels. There’s a daily fee of €3 per person for up to seven days on top of the stay. Drinks at the bar also seemed to be marked up slightly, so we paid €10 for drinks listed at €9. The two bottles of water in the minibar were replenished daily at €2.50 each, but no prices were shown, so we assumed they were included. Our first room faced the parking lot and had loud air conditioning, though we did manage to get a free upgrade. Even after that, getting to the room was like navigating a maze, down five stairs and up two from reception, and it felt shut away. The fitness room has been nonexistent since 2020. Breakfast was about 90% sweet, which seemed typical in Italy. The small savory selection, which I understand is more common in the north, was below average. The bacon was plasticky and the scrambled eggs were soupy, though the sunny-side-up eggs were decent. This wasn’t what we expected from a four-star hotel.
