The location is the hotel’s one strong point. The building is old and poorly maintained, with a feel like the movie The Shining. Our room was large but basic and not very clean, and the old beds weren’t comfortable. Breakfast was lackluster as well. Poor value for the price, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

That huge scoop of ice cream for €4 earned five stars from me. After hiking up Corno Grande all day, my whole body was craving it. Best thing ever.

The Gran Sasso cable car is so close, which was a big plus. I was nervous after reading the reviews, but I ended up changing my mind. Our room was roomy and comfortable, and so was the bathroom, though the shower felt a little cramped. The service was otherwise what you'd expect from a three-star hotel. We stayed half-board. Breakfast had loads of sweet options and was excellent, with a smaller savory selection. The managers were helpful and offered different dinner choices for guests staying more than one night. The chef was excellent, and even though the waitress was on her own, she handled several tables well without making us wait too long. At this point, I think the people writing the negative reviews may be expecting a five-star hotel.
