There are plenty of restaurants and bars near the rooms, plus two Carrefours close by. The room was a nice single with a double bed. It wasn't very big, but worked fine for me on my own. It's close to the train station and about a 10-15 minute walk to the seafront. Buying tickets for Porto Venere from the seafront is easy, though an earlier ferry helps avoid the rush. For the Cinque Terre, I got the train/hiking pass online in advance and set off early to avoid the queues. I started just before 08.00 and took the train to Monterosso, which has a great beach, really the only one in the area. Then I made my way back to La Spezia. Trains run every 15-30 minutes, with 5-10 minutes between the 5 stations.
