Claudio’s machine makes lovely coffee, and breakfast is a perfectly adequate, traditional spread with amazing croissants, cheese, and meat. We booked half board directly with Claudio through the website and paid less than Booking.com’s B&B price. The hotel is spacious, with a refreshing traditional feel. Rooms were cleaned and beds made daily, and I’m pretty sure we got fresh sheets and towels halfway through the week. If you have a car and don’t need to be right in central La Thuile, the location works well. There’s a free town car park near the mobile home park, about a 400-metre walk from the main lift, which is good for warming up and winding down around a ski day. Dinner is served in a restaurant in another building, 100 metres away. It’s an easy walk, and you might be glad of it after eating all that’s put in front of you. The food is traditional, so don’t expect burgers and chips.

Breakfast is a help-yourself buffet, the rooms are quiet, and the bed was excellent. The people are lovely, and the restaurant and chef are superb. You do have to walk to the restaurant in a separate building, but it’s an easy enough stroll. We drive down to ski because it gives us the freedom to come and go, though there is a bus. We’ve been coming for years and can’t wait to return. By far the best hotel in Lathuile, with the nicest people.

The mountain view is beautiful, the location is great, and the free parking is useful. Those are the reasons for the three stars. Service was okay, though it depended on whether you got a good person at your table. The food was below average, and I wouldn’t return for that. Such a good location makes it a pity.

People knocked on the door at night while I was trying to sleep. The ski bus also runs rarely: it goes at 9:06 a.m., then you have to wait until 10:40 a.m. to head out skiing. I didn’t really like it.
