Miramare

The location is excellent, with beaches, places to eat, shops, and plenty else within walking distance. The building has a quirky layout with half and quarter floors and a few steps between levels. There's an elevator from the lobby, but it doesn't reach every room on every floor, and the building is not ADA accessible. This is a very old hotel, and the rooms are plain. Mine was small and clean, with good ventilation, and the single twin bed was comfortable, especially after I folded the pillows in half to make them thicker. The front desk staff were helpful and spoke enough English for me to get by as a non-Italian speaker. The doors still use old-fashioned metal keys with teeth along the edge, something I hadn't seen in decades. The TV seemed to be about 24 inches and was difficult to navigate. The bathroom was fine, but the shower was extremely narrow, like a cruise ship shower cut down to half its size. The water temperature kept wavering, so I had to stay nimble in that cramped space.

The room my sister had was much nicer than ours, even though we paid the same, and our room wasn't very clean. The location is very good, but the advertised private beach was a disappointment. When we asked about it, we were sent to a beach club, where we paid 40 euros for chairs we could use for only an hour. In response to the reply: We'd have been much happier paying 12 euros for two chairs. Instead, the man at the club you directed us to charged 10 euros per person, so the total was 40 euros for four of us. I gave him the card you'd sent us. Hopefully you can now direct people somewhere else.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the place was completely disappointing. It was very dirty, with mildew and mold, and felt totally abandoned. I only stayed because I had to be there for a wedding. I would never have chosen it otherwise.

The reception staff were kind, breakfast was free, and the hotel itself is nice, but too many things went wrong for this to be a pleasant week. We paid €350,- for six nights. The rooms are okay, nothing special, and some have only a big fan instead of air-conditioning. Our shower barely drained. Mid-shower, we had to wait around five minutes for the water to go down. We asked the desk to fix it, and a plumber came the next day, turned the shower on and off, then left. The problem was still there. The shower itself was disappointing too, more like a leaking garden hose than a proper shower after a hot day. One morning, someone knocked while we were in bed. We shouted no, then heard a key unlocking the door three seconds later, so we yelled no again. Ten minutes later came another knock, and we answered no again. On the third try I got out of bed to see what was going on. A woman was there, very keen to hand over our clean towels.
