Il Paradiso

The room was filthy, with hair, moss on the marble shower, dirty blankets, a sink that splashed water onto your arms, and a bathroom lock that wouldn't shut. On top of all that, my children were missing a power bank and €100 from their wallets. The keys only opened interior doors, and I can't say who took anything or accuse anyone, but the loss happened while we were there. We were a family of five and booked two rooms without being told they didn't connect. The bathroom in one room was separate, so you had to cross a shared space to reach it. That was already a serious problem for me, and then the rest of the stay made things far worse. Think carefully before booking this B&B.

I left early after sleeping in February with the windows wide open because of the dust and mold. The blankets had caked-on spills, there were red clumps of hair stuck to the walls, and the shared area was no better. I sent photos to Booking.com, which recognized my complaint and asked the owner to refund me. He refused and asked, "Are you sure you won't face repercussions by leaving a review?" I've attached the pictures. A look at the Booking.com reviews shows I'm not the first to run into these problems.

I did still give him some money, even though I hadn't used any of the nights and had left my suitcase there for only a couple of hours. His wife was a little more pleasant, but I wouldn't recommend the place. I'm a teacher and had asked about availability for a few nights because of a short-term substitute job. Only a couple of nights had been booked, and that was verbally, not through a website or anything official. At first they seemed very kind. Then force majeure meant I had to go home. The owner raised his voice on the phone, and when I came back for my suitcase, he sent only his wife out. He kept saying I'd caused him harm. I tried explaining what had happened, but he really upset me and made me uncomfortable.

The hosts were friendly, and the location is hard to beat across the whole surrounding area. There's a restaurant about 1 hm away, while shops are a bit farther, around 1 km. The room started out at about 21°C even though it was 31°C outside, despite my mentioning that I'm sensitive to cold. That was soon sorted out, and I found the situation funny. One bathroom is attached but sits outside the room I stayed in. If they've fixed the locks so the room locks easily and you don't get stuck in the bathroom, I'd give it five stars.
