The town was a highlight, and from the hotel it was only a pleasant walk along the water to the main square. Three nights felt far too short, so we're already talking about coming back. The sea view from our balcony was beautiful at any time of day, though the umbrella motor was faulty and the midday sun made sitting outside less comfortable. We also had a little trouble shutting the balcony door, but it still kept out the small amount of noise. The air conditioning cooled the room overnight, even if it could have blown harder. We stayed from July 1 to 4 after taking a train from Firenze to Sarzana, then a 15-minute cab ride. The last-minute rate was fair, and Matteo greeted us warmly and upgraded us to a clean, lovely superior suite at no extra cost. He booked us two sun chairs and an umbrella in the hotel's private waterfront lounge, which was reasonably priced for the location and privacy. We had the area to ourselves that first morning and afternoon. Matteo didn't have a kettle when we asked, but left a note for the front desk. Later Gerry had found one and coffee cups for us, so we could enjoy our mornings on the balcony. He was also wonderfully friendly and gave us restaurant suggestions. We couldn't have asked for a more personable stay, and we'll recommend the hotel to friends and family. Ronja and Chase
The hotel delivered on what brought me here: its seaside location, bay view, and balcony. I loved watching the boats, and the promenade makes for a lovely walk along the town. The room was compact and practical, with everything I needed. Gerry at reception was kind and helpful, too. Breakfast was an inexpensive add-on, so I hadn't booked for it. As a vegan, there wasn't much for me, which was fine, and the machine-made espresso was very good. I knew in advance that I was getting a renovated room, and it's easy to see online which room you're choosing. For the experience, the price was very reasonable. We absolutely loved this hotel and will come back. Thanks, SDP!
The central location and the sea right across from the hotel are the only good things. Unless you're certain you'll get one of the refurbished rooms, I'd avoid it. The rooms on the fifth floor are awful, and the staff don't seem apologetic about it.
Inside the hotel it's quiet, though the evening noise outside is astonishing. The AC is only average and won't go below 23 degrees. Breakfast was a disaster: dry bread and even the eggs came cold.
We came with a Rotary group for the lovely location and views, and it's only a short boat ride to cinque Terre. The hotel itself is ugly, with tiny rooms and a very small, uncomfortable bathroom. At least it was clean.
