Camping Due Laghi

We expected more from our stay at Camping Due Laghi. The accommodation needs a thorough maintenance job, and the condition wasn’t acceptable to us. The campsite might have potential, but there were clear problems with upkeep and safety in our unit. The terrace was built poorly enough that we couldn’t use the door lock. Some repairs looked temporary or unfinished: duct tape had been used in several spots, and a large hole in a door was patched very sloppily. The cooker hood was missing its grille. That all looked unprofessional, as if the issues had been covered up instead of properly fixed. The ceiling light had bulbs with different colour temperatures, which made the room’s lighting feel strange and unpleasant. There was no smoke or gas alarm, and the gutter downpipe wasn’t secured. One room’s closing mechanism also didn’t work, which caused inconvenience during our stay.

Camping Due Laghi is a beautiful site, though I’d call it good three-star quality rather than four-star. It has spacious, shady pitches, a nice pool, an active entertainment team, a small shop, clean sanitary block, and a good restaurant beside reception. It’s near Levico Lake, Levico Terme village, and a large supermarket. They also followed up on my comment about the shortage of toilet paper. My main frustration was the Trentino Guest Card service. The card gives free public transport, museum and castle entry, and other benefits. Many local campsites offer it, and Camping Due Laghi promotes it on a dedicated website page. I chose this site partly because the card would save me entrance fees. As I understood it, the campsite just had to provide a code, at no cost to them. On arrival, I asked reception for the code and was told it would come by email. Nothing arrived, so I went back the next day. They said the one person with system access would come in the afternoon and send it. On day three, I still had no code. Reception then said they couldn’t help because they lacked access, and that the person who could issue it hadn’t been in the office and wouldn’t be coming. I left my name, email, and phone number for the manager, and emailed a complaint, but nobody replied or called. Leaving for another campsite wasn’t an option because I’d already paid for all ten nights. I finally spoke with the manager on day four. He said the site hadn’t yet been accredited to issue guest cards, but that didn’t match what reception had told me about issuing them before. When I asked why the website still advertised it, I was told, “it is too difficult to change a website.” I’d already spent EUR 20 on entry fees that would normally have been covered. The only compensation offered was a restaurant drink voucher. I was worn out by the discussions and decided to let it go and enjoy the rest of my holiday. I was also in touch with the Trentino Guestcard Card company, and they were very helpful, even over a public holiday weekend. They sent an access link to reception, which then let the staff issue the code. I could finally activate the card on the afternoon of day five. It’s a shame this turned into such an irritating ordeal, because the campsite has a lot going for it. The facilities do need updating, though. Their Guest Card service gets no stars from me.

The pool is lovely and works well for children of all ages. But the playgrounds are a complete joke given how many kids are staying here. We spent a week at the campsite in a premium mobile home. It was fine, if rather small, and came with very little equipment, so we had to buy nearly everything on arrival, including soap, toilet paper, and dishwashing liquid and a sponge. Our first home was right beside the stage, where entertainment ran every night from 20:30 to 22:00, and sometimes later. It was a nightmare. We couldn’t hear ourselves think, let alone get the kids to sleep. The staff were friendly and resourceful and helped us move a little farther away. That reduced the noise somewhat, but it was still loud. There are activities going on all the time, and they’re noisy, so if you’re coming to relax and read, this probably isn’t the place.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a nice gelato place down the road. We stayed in a Classic mobile home. We knew it was budget accommodation, but it turned out quite nice, with a fairly recent refurbishment, windows that worked well, and decent shower and kitchen facilities. It sleeps five, with one double bed and a triple, though the living area is pretty small. It suited us as a couple. The pool had lovely views. At one point the water looked cloudy from everyone’s sunscreen, but it was cleared up within a day or so. The lake is a bit of a walk, but lovely when you get there. There’s a basic toilet, plus water toys and paddle boards for hire. At 5 euros an hour, they’re very cheap. The restaurant serves nice thin-crust pizzas. Keep in mind it’s a campsite with budget accommodation, not a hotel, and you should be happy with it.
