Hotel Al Faro

The marina views and central location were what made me book here, and they were both good. The hotel has a cute, kitschy 1950s look, though it badly needs updating. The TV was about laptop-sized, and the bed was so hard it felt like rock, maybe pumice. The WiFi was the dealbreaker. It kept dropping out and never got above roughly 300 kbps. I was on vacation, but still needed to check in with work a couple of times a day, and couldn't depend on my phone for internet. A connection that lasts only 45 seconds at a time just wasn't usable. It was no better in the lobby or restaurant. We left and found somewhere else to stay. I knew the $164 for two nights wasn't refundable, and didn't ask for it back. The very friendly woman at the desk called her "capo" (manager) anyway. After speaking with them, she said the manager claimed the WiFi worked perfectly and nobody else had complained. We were practically the only guests under 70, though, and I imagine older guests may be less dependent on internet. The manager wasn't even at the hotel at 3 in the afternoon. Saying there was no problem and offering no apology, let alone a partial refund, was poor customer service. I wouldn't be writing this if that had been handled differently. We've checked into Villa Giuliana now and are very happy we left Al Faro. I'm writing this on WiFi that hasn't cut out and has decent speed.
