Ausonia Hungaria Hotel

I wasn't staying at the hotel, but visited while our friend Thomas XX was arranging a surprise for his wife's 30th birthday. The manager and team organized everything really well, and the staff were courteous and coordinated. Big thanks to them. I hope our friend likes the surprise, and wish him a happy life ahead.

The outside of the hotel looks impressive, and it’s conveniently about five minutes from the Lido Vaporetto. Our corner room, 401, had a view toward Venice, but was very small. Check-in was okay. They didn’t let us in before 2 pm, which we’d expected. Breakfast was limited and repetitive, and the service didn’t feel like five-star service. The reception staff were indifferent when I reported that heavy machinery noise outside woke us every morning after 5 am. They mainly stressed that it wasn’t noise from inside the hotel. We asked for an iron and were told “impossible.” The receptionist also claimed no hotel in Italy would provide one, which we know isn’t true. I understand a hotel might not offer one for health and safety reasons, but they could explain that properly to guests. Housekeeping also knocked late in the evening to ask whether we wanted fresh towels, which could wake guests who are already asleep. Three stars would be a more realistic rating for the service we got.

Ivan at reception and the rest of the team found my wife's sunglasses after we'd already left. Thank you for the excellent service during our stay. Greetings from Switzerland, and we hope to return.

After 9 pm, while my wife and three-year-old daughter were asleep, a staff member entered our room without warning or explanation. Being woken by strangers coming in with our small child there was frightening and completely inappropriate. When we complained, nobody apologized. Instead, staff blamed us for not putting out a “Do Not Disturb” sign. Guests shouldn't have to expect an unannounced visit to an occupied room late in the evening. I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night because I was worried about our privacy and safety. I reported the serious intrusion to the front desk, but they did nothing to address it or make amends. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. The lack of respect for privacy and basic hospitality was unacceptable, and I'd advise families, especially those with young children, to avoid this place.
