Anton, the administrator, made a huge difference to the stay. He looked after us, explained anything we weren’t sure about, and sorted things out right away whenever we needed help. We felt at home, and I’m very grateful to him and the hotel owners for the unforgettable memories. The hotel is in Trepalle, a little farther from the main city, Livigno, which also made it quieter and cheaper. Getting into Livigno wasn’t a problem. There’s a grocery store just one minute away, a dairy farm selling fresh milk, duty-free shops, and places within walking distance for trekking and skiing. For me, the mountains are the reason to come here, and it’s better to get out and enjoy them than spend the holiday sitting in your room. I loved this place and will definitely come back.

The host really made our stay. They were friendly, welcoming, quick to help, and made sure we had what we needed. The Chalet was spotless when we arrived, and its central location made exploring easy. We felt comfortable and at home from the start. We had an amazing time and will definitely return. Anton keeps everything running smoothly at Baita Zelda hostel, but he also gives the place its welcoming atmosphere. He’s always looking after guests. Everything was clean and well managed, and the beds were comfortable. The price is the best in this locality, and the quality for the price around Livigno is hard to beat. The location worked especially well for me: Montolino hills are just a five-minute walk away, and the surrounding mountains seemed even more beautiful and stunning than those in Livigno. I imagine it’s hard to find a spot here in high season, so book ahead.

The butcher next door was great, and the duty-free shop was well stocked. Beyond that, this was by far the worst place I’ve stayed. It was dirty, poorly maintained, short on equipment, and came with large hidden costs. The staff were lazy and unreasonable. **Unexpected charges** If you don’t bring your own towels and bed linen, each costs 50 euro. They may also withhold 75 euro from the deposit if you don’t mop and vacuum before leaving. That rule wasn’t enforced on us, but they found another way to keep our full deposit, as described below. **Staff and maintenance** Our host was friendly, but wouldn’t act unless pushed. The staircase between the car park and house was icy and very slippery, and our kids fell. Marko only cleaned it after I asked for tools to do it myself. After a window broke, loose shards were left on the door and floor for more than a day, despite most guests having small kids. **Damage charges** An exterior glass panel in the building entrance broke during our stay. It was a shared door used by two units to reach their entrances, not part of either unit, as the pictures show. In my opinion, it was unreasonable to charge guests’ security deposits for it. The staff at the company I booked through said the same when I called to complain. Still, our neighbours and we had to cover a total bill of 520 Euro, which I believe is far too much for a window. **Update** The property’s response seems to mix us up with another group, so I want to clarify a few things. We did NOT break the glass, and the property has no proof that we did. The group of "young lads" was in the apartment next door. I don’t know whether they broke the door, but the property kept the deposits from both apartments. If they believe that group broke it, please return my deposit. For what it’s worth, they didn’t disturb the kids. We did have two kids, as shown by the toys and children’s gloves in one of the photos. In fact, they were the only kids there. We were not excessively intoxicated and brought no pets. Our ski equipment stayed in the car because carrying it up the slippery stairs to the ski room was easier to avoid. None of the other damage was caused by us. The pictures show signs of sloppy attempts to fix some of it. When we left, I hoped I could reason with management and, if needed, get help from booking.com. I thought the repair would cost about 100 euro and expected at least 200 euro back. Causing extra damage would have made that impossible. The staircase was covered in snow throughout our visit. The picture was taken at 10:46 am. It’s true we weren’t charged a cleaning fee, but the property instructions say you can pay 75 euro to avoid cleaning, including mopping the floor, when you leave.
