Hotel Posta

The rooms have a cozy mountain style, and the location has excellent views. The lifts are just a short walk away.

That was our first stay at Hotel Posta where we left feeling it simply wasn't worth four stars. We’ve been coming to Livigno for nearly 40 years, mostly in winter, and have stayed in three-star hotels and basic Garni. Never before had we gone a day and a half without heat or hot water in our room. Nor had a bar ever switched off its lights at 9:45 pm while we were playing cards by it, with Francisca telling us they had to close. The next night, the bar area was shut by 10 pm already. I’d asked on our first day for a few decorations and a cake at breakfast for my parents’ anniversary. When we arrived at the table, there was nothing. The kitchen manager was kind and apologized because she’d been away, then arranged a small cake on the spot. The gym was unavailable too: the main machine was broken, and some of the basic bikes needed maintenance. The owner didn’t apologize or try to make up for these problems. There are good things: a great location, a good breakfast, chef Nowes in particular, and lovely cleaning staff on our floor. But I wouldn’t recommend Hotel Posta. Livigno is beautiful and deserves a better hotel.

We were there last summer with six friends for mountain biking. The hotel is lovely and the food is good, which is why I gave it two stars rather than one. The problem came from their mistake with our car registration in the pedestrian area. The rented car’s plate wasn’t registered correctly, and we ended up with a fine plus the rental company’s administration fees. They told us to contest it with the Livigno municipal office. Since the fine wasn’t huge and dealing with Italian bureaucracy, especially around Christmas, sounded like a waste of time, we asked them to pay it and refund us instead. Everyone makes mistakes, but being left to spend our own time and energy fixing theirs felt unfair. For a four-star place, I expected them to take responsibility. Their only offer was to cover the 16 euros for sending documents by post to contest the fine, not even the rental admin fees we had to pay regardless. In the end, they gave us instructions by email and that was it. Thanks, Hotel Posta Team. I don’t think losing seven customers in one go was good business either.

The central location is the best part, with shops and restaurants nearby and a pleasant view of the ski slopes. The staff were helpful and brought us the things that were missing. Still, for a four-star hotel I expected better service and facilities. Our room was quite cold, there was no spa bathrobe, and the water bottle mentioned in the booking wasn’t there.
