Hotel Gennarino

Two cars were broken into right outside the hotel while we were there, which left us concerned about the area’s safety and upkeep. We’d booked a larger room at Hotel Gennarino but got a noticeably smaller one, with no explanation or apology. It smelled musty the whole time, even after we aired it out. There was no air conditioning in the summer heat, so we slept with the windows open and had to put up with noise from the neighborhood at all hours. Rest was nearly impossible. The place didn’t match its photos or description, and the service and rooms were poor. I rarely post reviews, but this stay was too awful to keep to myself. Stay far away from Hotel Gennarino.

My room stayed warm and stuffy all night because the central air conditioning wasn’t working properly, despite my trying to adjust it. At the bar/reception, we ordered two espressos and a cappuccino and were asked to pay €10. When I requested an invoice, staff refused and shrugged, saying, “This is Italy.” It felt like an attempt to take advantage of tourists, and the lack of transparency was unacceptable. I stayed last night and, based on what happened, can’t recommend this hotel.

The staff were excellent, and the rooms were great, with comfortable beds. It’s a beautiful historic building near the beach and lots of wonderful restaurants. We’ll be back.

Parking my car was difficult, and the receptionist didn’t seem concerned. Breakfast tea tasted really bad, and the butter cakes came in plastic wrappers. If that’s what you like, this may be the place for you.
