The restaurant has a stunning view and delicious food. Prices were quite reasonable, 16 Euro for a one-plate menu and 25 for three courses. It only serves hotel guests, so there were just a handful of diners and service felt personal and relaxed. With so few diners, booking ahead is necessary, and it's a good idea to discuss the menu with the chef. She was friendly and accommodating, and tailored the evening meal for the vegetarians in our group. She spoke German, and another staff member spoke English. The hotel is tucked into the hills among vineyards, and the quiet is wonderful. At night, the only sound was crickets. The buildings and grounds are well kept and fit pleasantly into the landscape. Rooms are small, but have a good bathroom, air conditioning, and a small fridge, and every room faces the sea. Several magnificent beaches are a 10-15 minute drive away.

We've known Sardinia for years and keep coming back, but Ogliastra still has our hearts. This year we tried the Funtana Ena Inn restaurant, and it was the highlight: very good dishes that weren't the usual fare, with traditional Sardinian fish cooking throughout, fitting for an inn near the maritime city of Arbatax. Our best evening was dinner on a balcony at sunset overlooking Barisardo. The inn has improved over the years. It's thoroughly clean, has wide open spaces, and the staff are always ready with good advice for sea trips to the calette, including Mariolu, Biriola, and Goloritze. The days seemed to pass pleasantly slowly. It's set in the countryside of Loceri, while Marina di Cea beach, Torre di Barì, awarded the Bandiera Blu prize, is an easy ten-minute drive. The spotless pinewood alongside the beach gives welcome shade, and there are a café and restaurant. We had an amazing week surrounded by green nature and looked after by a highly capable, coordinated team. We'd recommend Funtana Ena to nature lovers and anyone wanting a true Sardinian experience.
