We spent two weeks here, and Sylvie made the experience even better with her attentive, helpful hosting. Breakfast was continental. The place feels like living in a medieval fairy tale, really more like a castle than the Four Seasons. It won’t suit everyone: there are wrought-iron furnishings, stone steps and walls, dark hallways, and no elevator. But I thought it was a wonderful experience.

There’s no elevator, so anyone with mobility issues should look elsewhere. For us, the helpful staff and tasty, easy-to-get-to breakfast made this a lovely stay. They even helped us find a laundry service for drop-off wash and fold. It’s in the heart of Lucca, with restaurants, bars, and groceries close by. I’d happily stay again.

I got locked out. There’s no front desk, and there are far too many of these lousy no-service places. If you’re traveling in Italy, book a hotel so you can at least get into your room. They send a URL for check-in, which is great when the internet is poor.

I liked the theme and enjoyed the room, which was a pleasant surprise. The bed seemed a little old, the shower was tiny, and the air conditioning could have been stronger. The rest was pretty good, and it was a lovely stay.

The bed was very uncomfortable, the shower tiny, and sound carried through the poor insulation. There was nobody there when we arrived, and checkout is at 10 am. The location is central in Lucca, but a long way from parking, and the staircase is narrow.
