L'Arancio

The room and bathroom were clean, and the air conditioning worked well. But breakfast wasn't worth having, and we couldn't leave our bags inside early. They also kept the same towels for both days, with an unconvincing environmental excuse.

I was unhappy with the room standard, so after booking in April I changed hotels. The receptionist said I could get back the cost of two of the three nights. Since I had paid by card at the desk, I left my details and IBAN as she asked, and she assured me it would be fine. Five months on, no refund has arrived. I've called several times and sent messages by email and through the website, but I'm still waiting. Terrible, very unprofessional service.

There were no glasses for water, no bottle of water that was supposed to be provided, and the in-room tea and coffee setup had no coffee. The room also faced a busy main road, so traffic noise was a problem. It wasn't as described: the air conditioner had a flexible tube but nowhere to plug it in, there were no spare sockets for phone charging, and the shower room had no bidet. Getting out of the shower meant stepping down about 30cm, which felt dangerous. The parking entrance was extremely narrow and hard to use with traffic making it difficult to position the car. Expensive for what you get.

The reception was so sweet, and the place felt like grandma's house with a modern twist. It's really close to the city center, too. I loved staying here and would definitely return. Lucca itself deserves more tourist attention, I thought it was amazing and it's become one of my favorites.
