The apartment was fine as a place to spend a holiday, but it’s self-managed after the initial setup, so we handled things like laundry and rubbish ourselves. It also lacked some useful modern basics, such as a toaster, microwave and ironing board, along with familiar cable news channels like BBC, CNN, CNBC, DW and F24. This was a vacation apartment, not the Manzoni. We stayed in apartment Margherita in June 2019. We’d been told it was in a quiet area, but as light sleepers we found the late-night voices, passing cars and early service vehicles in the narrow old-city streets made it hard to sleep. Heavy sleepers may not have a problem. The marketing pictures on Google showed towels tied with bows and Champagne, but we didn’t get either :-) If we could choose again, we’d stay in Monte Catini Terme and make day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Florence.

The host made us feel very welcome, and the location was excellent. Our room was enormous, with a beautiful, spacious guest area in a superbly renovated old building. It met all our expectations. I only hope saying so doesn’t make it harder to book next time.

A pleasant spot in La Spezia, about a seven-minute walk from the railway station. It’s close to the pedestrian streets, but far enough away that they didn’t make it noisy.
