R.T.A. Hotel des Alpes 2

We had a laugh at the place's 1970s time warp feel. The bedroom had an Ivy frieze, the ground floor art was bizarre, dated furniture was everywhere, and the Christmas decorations were still up at the end of February. The nightclub and its noise at 3 in the morning won't suit everyone. One night, someone set off bangers just outside our room, loud enough to probably wake half the hotel. The resort as a whole feels dated to me. Food around town was either bizarre or unimaginative, and weekends were badly managed, since this is such a local go-to ski area. The slopes were packed, and mountain restaurants couldn't cope. You pay extra for a feel-good experience, but there's little choice, hour-long queues for self-service, and in some places toilets are holes in the ground. Not ideal in ski gear. The whole place needs a revamp, though maybe there's no incentive when every hotel was booked from January through the end of March. The snow cannons worked well, but the artificial snow deteriorated quickly. By midday each day, we were skiing on slush and ice.

The price was quite high for such a disaster. The hotel is very old, and the quality is poor. Staff and management seemed unprepared, with total chaos around arrivals and other organization. We arrived at 16:00 and waited more than two hours for our room. There weren't enough ski lockers for all the rooms, and nobody told us in advance that the lift doesn't go to the 6th and 7th floors.

Reception staff could be friendlier and more enthusiastic.

It was okay.
