Hotel Vega

Marco and his staff were very helpful, and the rooms were spotlessly clean. It’s an excellent hotel right by the lake and should be rated higher than 3 ⭐. We’d definitely go back.

We visited from Canada and stayed May 13-16. The rooms were very nice and clean, with spectacular views of Lake Garda, and the breakfast buffet was very good. Marco and the staff were pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. He suggested some lovely restaurants for us, and they were wonderful. Thank you, Marco, for a great stay. We hope to return one day! Marco has made Hotel Vega in Malcesine a little gem on the shores of Lake Garda. There’s real character and warmth here, with impeccable service. Everything from the location and breakfast to the rooms was fabulous, including comfy beds, good pillows, and a great shower. The staff were attentive and super friendly. It’s a fabulous hotel in every way.

We’ve just returned from Hotel Vega, and we’ve never written a bad hotel review before, but we feel we have to share what happened. We were visiting for our 10yr wedding anniversary. On our first night, I asked Marco for a cup. We bring a travel kettle for my husband, who is waiting for a knee replacement and is in a lot of pain, so he’s up a lot at night. Marco said he wouldn’t give us a cup because room service was available to bring tea to the room. The hotel rules also say you can’t put anything in the minibar because the maids will remove it, and that you have to remove any plastic from bottled water yourself, not the maids. There’s no public toilet in the hotel either, so you have to go up to your room each time, which is a pain. And although everyone loves Gelato, signs all over the entrance and reception say not to eat it there. At breakfast on our first morning, we saw that all the tables by the window with the beautiful view were reserved. We asked Marco if we could sit at one since they were all empty, and he told us they were reserved. When we asked what we’d need to do to get one, he said they’d see if someone left. We stayed a week and saw very few people use those tables. Most guests seemed to stay 2-3days, and no one ever offered us a seat there. The night before we left, we asked at reception who the tables were reserved for. We were told they were kept for returning visitors. I said how disappointing that was, since we’d never come across this at any hotel and have traveled extensively. Later, she said we could have a window table the next day as we were leaving. That ship had sailed, so we declined. The air conditioning wasn’t adequate. We were awake half the night from the heat, and it actually shuts off completely overnight. On the plus side, our waiter Antonio was very funny and professional, and he was always careful not to disturb people trying to sleep on the decking. Marco, however, was constantly fooling around loudly with guests. It was embarrassing to watch, and he showed no concern for those trying to sleep. The area is super, but there are way too many rules. Overall, the hotel seemed to be trying to squeeze as much money from guests as possible, to the point of upsetting them. We’re a couple who actually looks for people to tip, but very few people deserved one. We know this review won’t stop people booking, but I’d check reviews before doing so.
