Our room was huge and full of character, though it faced the street, which might not suit everyone. The house itself goes back to around the 1400s and has been carefully restored and decorated by the family who own it. Frescoes, lovely wooden ceiling beams, and a beautiful shared lounge all add to its charm. Virginia was a lovely host. We only booked one night in Mantova, but looking back, two would have been better.

This is a nice base for an overnight stay and a look around this lovely old city. Just be prepared for the weather: summer can be really hot and humid, while winter gets very, very cold. The Mantuans say it has Italy's worst weather!

The room was roomy, with a lovely marble bathroom, and we got a warm welcome from the owner, who also serves a varied breakfast with local treats. It's not quite central, but that gave us a chance to experience a different part of Mantua. In the evening, we could relax in a quiet reading room, with books, frescoes, and paintings instead of a TV. The stairs are a minor drawback, but this is an unusual B&B that's worth a try.

Virginia welcomed us so kindly, and the location worked well for exploring different parts of the city. The breakfasts were generous and varied, and everything was very clean. A great stay.
