We were supposed to stay for three nights, but when we arrived the host said the bathroom had a plumbing issue caused by earlier guests and needed urgent work. He sent us to a different property outside the historic center, and it didn't meet basic habitability requirements. At first he acted trustworthy and helpful, and said we could still use the apartment we'd booked despite the plumbing problem. The next day he changed his mind. After that, he became hard to reach, didn't answer our calls, and wouldn't come to the apartment to talk with us. We later found other reviews on Google and Booking describing what seemed to be the same approach. In some cases, people say the photos show one place but they're offered a different one at a higher price, without the necessary amenities. In others, a story about damage is used on arrival to move guests elsewhere, which can double up bookings and make a profit. It was presented to us as a favor and an unexpected fix, but I believe it was planned. To me, this is a scam. Don't be taken in. There are plenty of other places for a worry-free stay in Mantua.

I stayed here from October 15 to 17, and the place is in the ZTL. I was due to arrive at 3 pm and got there at 3:17. The owner assured me he'd pay for the pass, but on November 28 I received a fine from the Comune di Mantova for entering the ZTL without one: €78.35 if paid promptly, or €103.78 after five days. I also paid an extra €25 for a very inconvenient garage. The owner never answers the phone, only SMS, and when I contacted him about the fine he said he'd look into it. I still haven't heard back, so I have to pay for something that wasn't my fault. The place might be cute, though not beautiful, but I wouldn't trust the owner. I'm very, very disappointed.

The manager was quick to reply and really helpful, including with worthwhile tips for restaurants and places to see. Mantua is a beautiful city, too. Our stay was peaceful and we slept very well, with a great spot for reaching the historic center, the lakes, and the bike paths.

The apartment had everything we needed. It was also close to the center of Mantua and the Anconetta car park.
