Hotel Broletto Mantova - centro storico

The owners were rude, and the whole stay was a complete nightmare. This is easily in the bottom 1% of hotels we’ve stayed in. We had a better place in Milan for half the price. The rooms are dated and need a remodel. They try to hide that with random decorative objects everywhere. The fridge didn’t work, and the bed felt like it had been inherited from the Inquisition. Breakfast was pathetic. There were only seven pieces of salami for protein, and they disappeared straight away. The cakes were lovely, but who wants to fill up on sugar in the morning? I heard another guest complain bitterly about the lack of savory options. The table was microscopically small and cluttered with more pointless objects, so there was nowhere to put anything. The bathroom looked like it belonged in a hostel in a developing country. There’s nobody on duty in the evening, and good luck getting into the “hotel” door. No one answered the phone when we called in an emergency. The street was noisy on an ordinary night, then the vendors at a fair woke us very early one morning. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear every toilet flush. As for location, Mantova is small and wherever you stay, the main sights are a short walk away.

Giulia, one of the staff, was very kind and attentive to guests’ well-being. The hotel was clean and cozy, in a good location, and the breakfast was satisfying. I’d come back and recommend it to anyone visiting Mantova, a lovely historic place.

The smell was so bad I couldn’t stay even one night, despite having booked two nights for October 2015. I decided to forfeit the prepayment. The staff were rude and unfriendly too. If you’re staying in Mantova, I’d avoid this place. I found a very nice alternative at the ABC Hotel, with delightful staff.

My sister and I spent 6nights at Hotel Broletto in May 2016. The location is great, and the staff were excellent, always happy to help when we asked what to see. We had a good room and breakfast as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for a stay in beautiful Mantova.
