Agriturismo La Rovere

A very good stay.

We spent two evenings here and felt genuinely at home thanks to Mariarosa's traditional cooking, made with food from her own fields. Set among wheat fields, this three-bedroom agriturismo is clean, has air conditioning and everything we needed, and serves meals on site. Mariarosa looks after the place carefully, and the price felt fair for what you get.

We stayed two nights and left happy, since this farmhouse was just what we wanted. Agriturismo La Rovere sits in the Mantua countryside and mainly grows grain. The rooms are simply and rustically furnished, and the owner gives you a warm welcome. Food is clearly the focus here. Breakfast is straightforward, with local cakes, bread, honey and homemade jams. Dinner has a small but good selection: homemade cured meats with sweet-and-sour and pickled vegetables and mustard, plus fresh bread. There may be seasonal wild-herb pasta, a meat main course, and sbrisolona or another dessert Mariarosa comes up with. It all feels like a place from another time, simple and genuine, with real care given to the food. Thanks to Mrs. Mariarosa for her hospitality. If you want luxury or a continental buffet breakfast, this probably isn't for you. It's better suited to people who appreciate the owners' approach.

I went for a confirmation and came away with lovely memories of the day, thanks in large part to the owners. The service was both warm and impeccable. The countryside setting had the feel of a real agriturismo, and the food was delicious, made with quality ingredients and prepared with an easy, home-style skill. It reminded me of eating my mother's cooking. Worth trying if you enjoy authentic flavors from days gone by.
