Massalargia

The location didn't work for us because it's far from the center, though I know that's a matter of perspective. What made the stay awful was the condition of the house. There were unpleasant smells everywhere, dirty cupboards, a poorly maintained kitchen, stained sofas, and dirty, broken floors. The rooms were dusty, unwelcoming, and smelled of mold. The bathroom was small and unclean, with only two-thirds as many towels as people, children included, for our three-day stay. Before we could settle in, we had to rush to a nearby supermarket for cleaning products and scrub every corner ourselves. The owner was rude, arrogant, and unkind. He first knocked and started a somewhat polite conversation, then ended it by telling us, unprofessionally, that the house was a mess and we should tidy up before leaving. We were disgusted and left without a second thought. I'll never return, even if they offered a free weekend. The stay was incredibly expensive and came with zero services. For the same price, I could have booked an excellent B&B in central Catania with breakfast. A horror holiday!

This B&B was clean and reasonably priced, but far too basic and sketchy. The rooms were sparsely furnished, with air-conditioning and radiator pipes left exposed, damp ceilings, and 1970s-era windows and interior doors. There was no refrigerator, not even a small bottle of water. The bathroom had neither a lock nor a toilet paper holder. There was also a worrying issue with the keys: ours, and I think the other guests' keys too, opened other rooms. We tested this with our friends' rooms, so we could have walked into any of them without anyone noticing. At breakfast we got four small pastries, but no milk, coffee, or water.

Marco, the host, was very helpful and attentive during my one-night stay. The villa is enormous, with a huge shared room downstairs.

We stayed for two nights and definitely won't be back. The roofs and windows were damp, the bathroom was in terrible shape, and the taps were covered in limescale. The water was either too stiff or too cold, and cleanliness was zero. There were ants in the kitchen sofas, and we had no breakfast. The bedroom doors were awful, old, and had broken handles. The only thing that worked well was the air conditioning. I nearly forgot, the lady organizes your sleeping arrangements. 😅🤣
