We arrived by boat and tied up at the wooden pier, then stepped onto a terrace over the sea with incredible views of the bay and cliffs. The De Simone family has been running Lo Scoglio da Tommaso in Marina del Cantone since 1958, and they made us feel at home. The raw fish platter started things off, with fresh tuna tartare, shrimp and sea urchins that tasted straight from the ocean. Then we had Spaghetti alla Nerano, with thin zucchini, aged Provolone and basil from their hillside farms. It lived up to Stanley Tucci's hype. For mains, the salt-crusted sea bream came with cherry tomatoes and wild herbs, all sourced that morning from local plots. We also ordered fried eggplant balls in tomato sauce, simple and spot-on. Antonia, Margherita and Tonino gave us spotless service and shared stories about their farm-to-table setup with lemons and olives. The place feels casual and beachy with a touch of elegance, from the painted ceramics to the bubbling Poseidon fountain and tank of the day's catch. We finished with delizia al limone, fluffy lemon cake with zesty cream, while watching the sunset. Dinner here became a real memory. Book ahead because it fills up fast. Can't wait to return.

The food at Lo Scoglio is already well known, but the staff's kindness deserves just as much praise. I accidentally left my handbag behind and didn't notice until we were 20 minutes from the restaurant, back at our hotel. By the time I woke up the next morning, Lo Scoglio had returned it to us. Thank you for a special dinner and for going the extra mile, with that stunning sunset as the backdrop.

I only went to the restaurant, so I can't speak to the rooms. We had a splendid lunch in the sunshine by the sea in mid november. The location is great and the staff attentive. The spaghetti alla nerano was excellent, though 29 euro felt a little expensive.

I didn't stay in the rooms, so this is just about the restaurant. There are lovely sea views from every seat. We ordered the sea urchin pasta and seafood pasta; both were good, but the sea urchin one was better. Service was okay, neither great nor bad.

It comes up as a hotel, so I can't review it as I would a restaurant. We went to try the pasta made with courgettes, but I've had better at other places. It was the most expensive meal of our stay in Nerano, and overpriced.
