Hotel Il Buongustaio

The owners are really nice, and the restaurant deserves a mention for getting both quality and prices right. The pool is big enough and has lots of sun loungers. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the city, which made for the restful week we wanted. A lovely place to relax.

The family who run this hotel were so hospitable and friendly that I wanted to move in with them. The father and son cook, and they’re very good at it. The mother and daughter work at reception and in the restaurant. They even drove us to the train station when we left. We learned they’ve owned the hotel for 27 years. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The views are spectacular, with endless walks starting right at the hotel. One of our most interesting walks took us to San Carlo, where you can drink fresh mineral water straight from the source. The place felt peaceful and tasteful, and was the highlight of our Italy trip. I can’t wait to go back someday. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve stayed.

The street is a bit of an adventure, but the climb is worth it. We had a relaxing day by the lovely pool, then a great dinner and good wine. Try the carbonara! The friendly staff served an all-good breakfast, and there’s lots of room for kids to play in the garden, with plenty of toys.

We had a large, clean, recently refurbished room, and the pool and garden were relaxing. The family-run hotel has a lot of charm, and the staff are welcoming and flexible. Lunch at the restaurant was really good, and I imagine dinner is too. A good spot for families. Breakfast was dismal, with little variety, and the fruit was well beyond ripe. There’s only one key per room, so you can’t leave your phone charging while you’re out. There was also a problem with the phone line, and the nearest ATM we found was about 10-15 minutes away by car.
