It'll do for an emergency stay, but the price is too high for this place. It should cost no more than 20 €.

Our room had a lovely terrace for watching the sunset, and the rooms were clean with new air conditioning systems. The staff were friendly, and it was great value. A bus runs from the train station to the hotel. The ocean is a five-minute walk away; if you continue south along the water for 15 minutes, you reach a busy beach area with very few tourists and great food. I'd recommend this hotel. It's about 35 minutes by train from the south start of Cinque Terre.

Hotel Sole was the cheapest place we found in Massa while looking for a base closer to cinque terre. It's within walking distance of the beach, though the seaside wasn't as clean as I expected. Most of the beach area is private and you have to pay, but there are a few public spots. The beach overall was very dirty and poorly maintained, which I blame on the Massa municipality. The hotel itself was neat and clean. There's still room for improvement, but overall it's a nice, clean hotel.
