The first thing that made us feel at ease was the warmth of the family running the guesthouse. They were lovely and suggested several places for us to visit. We got by despite the language barrier. Our deluxe room was spacious, with a little sitting area, a big wardrobe, a fridge, and a TV. The whole guesthouse has a distinctive vintage feel, and everything was very clean. Outside, there’s a huge landscaped garden with plenty of places to relax, sun loungers, and a large, very clean pool. There’s also a tennis court, free parking, and Wi-Fi that worked really well. Breakfast was generous and made to order. We especially enjoyed meeting the two staff members, "Yapa and his friend." They were cheerful, kind, and so helpful. The one thing that could be better was the bedding in our room, which could do with replacing or improving.

Antonio and Caterina make you feel at home so naturally, it’s almost like visiting old friends. The place has a spellbinding feel that grows on you, with an antique air in the rooms, quiet gazebos dotted around, and a beautiful park. Around the farmhouse, the well-kept tennis court and pool sit among all kinds of exotic plants, giving it a little Indonesian oasis feel. There’s good music and a fresh, clean scent in the background. It’s also well placed for getting to the sea easily. Don’t miss it.

It feels like time slows down here, and the grounds are wonderful to wander through. Our room was clean and tastefully furnished, while the house is full of character and details, clearly shaped by the owners’ travels. It’s a fairytale kind of place, and apparently attracts VIPs from all over the world. Highly recommended.

Casa Matilde is a great place to get away from the stress and rush of everyday life. Even though the sea is only 10 minutes away, the setting feels like the Chianti hills. The people there are really kind and helpful.
